Role and Responsibility

The Team. I met a lot of people whilst working with Renegade Pictures and I was able to observe their roles and how they fulfilled them. Renegade Pictures Alex Cooke: CEO Alex Cooke is the CEO of Renegade Pictures. Although I didn't work with her, I was able to research her role as CEO and what this involves.  A CEO (Chief Executive Officer) is the highest ranking executive in a company. The role requires the person to make major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations of the company, and acting as the main point of communication between the board of directors and corporate operations. (1) In this case, this means that Alex works with the Series Directors and Ed Nissen in particular to ensure that Renegade is running smoothly. Alex also likely decides or approves budgets for different productions. Alan Hayling: Editorial Director Alan Hayling's role as Editorial Director means that he manages the editorial processes at Renegade. Alan will be r

Week 2

Week 2: Daily Reflections Day 1 Today in the office went very well. My first job, assigned by Woody, was to create a prop for this week's show. For the reveal of the car, they were going to create a fake auction at which the owner of the car would attend, and his own car would be in the auction. In order to make the auction realistic, I researched 60-70 cars  to put the details into a fake catalogue that could be handed out. I finished this as quickly as I could and Woody was very happy with it. I also made some signs for the auction and I used examples from Google Images to make the props look realistic and accurate. I used this image to get an idea of the layout and content of a catalogue. Woody had also informed the team that he wanted to add an extra 100 people to the audience. I used emails that had been collated by Michelle, the researcher, that stated who had applied for a ticket for that day. I sent out around 120 emails to new people, stating that they had bee

Week 1

Daily Reflection I want to be able to look back on what I've done each day so that I can reflect on what I could have handled better. Day 1 Meeting and getting to know the team was important for the first day, as for this week I would be thrown in at the deep end with the as-live show coming up on Wednesday-Friday so it was important to settle in quickly. I found it difficult at first to know what to do as the team was very busy preparing for the shoot. Ebony was able to let me help her on her work which involved organising and checking off audience members and confirming their attendance for the 2 shows.  My supervisor and the production manager Karen was able to get me involved in some creative work including making a mood-board of the set for the live show to be sent off to National Geographic. It seemed like a simple enough task and I arranged relevant images with explanations, but I wasn't happy with it. I struggled with trying to make it look professional, and

Renegade Pictures: Car SOS

Car SOS. During my time with Renegade, I will be helping with a live shoot in Gaydon for their show, Car SOS. In order to understand what my role may include, I'm going to look into the programme and analyse it to get a better idea of what I'll be working on. Although the show is episodic, with a plot to each episode, the show that I will be working on is a live show version with the Car SOS presenters and an audience. This means that the show I will be looking into will be different in many ways, but I still need to know the topic behind the show, the kind of audience it attracts, and who the people involved are so that I know who and what I will be working with. What is the Premise? Tim Shaw (Left) and Fuzz Townshend (Right) Car SOS is a British show that follows 2 presenters as they meet families who have been down on their luck or are struggling with health issues. They take their old cars (that are most often vintage/ collectible models) and repair them to t

Professional Practice Initial Research

In the beginning... In order to understand what to expect from my role and from the company, I will research into their work and previous productions to get a better idea of what will be involved. What I know already Renegade Pictures is a company based in London that creates documentary content for channels such as Channel 4+5, ITV, BBC and National Geographic. I will be helping on-set with them to help film their show Car SOS . What I need to know Company History What they do My sector Research Renegade 's History Renegade was founded in 2006 by Channel 4 editor and producer and founding member of The Big Issue Alex Cook (1) (2) and BBC's then head of documentaries Alan Hayling (3). Hayling was unhappy with how the BBC ran their documentary sector, and so moved to create his own documentary production company with Cook to make documentaries about topics that he believed were worth documentary content, as opposed to current affairs. Renegade is a subs

Professional Practice Report Brief

Professional Practice For this project, I will be completing 2 week's experience at Renegade Pictures in London and on-set in Gaydon, a 1500 word report on the sector of the job, and a journal documenting my reflections during the project. Critical Reflection

As a guide for this post, I used a Trent University guide to reflective writing. [1] The Process Ideas In this project, we were tasked with creating an online News brand, creating a channel, a promotional video, and 1 episode of the show, involving a 2 minute package and 2 minute live segment. We began the project with brainstorming our brand. I suggested on the first day of the project that we make local news for a young audience of 10-17, and we stuck with it. It was a unique idea and we knew that there would be locations that we could use, and by narrowing down the audience this immediately made the topics clearer. Initially, we wanted one physical news package that a presenter could get involved in, and 1 current-affairs style package that we could challenge ourselves to making interesting. I suggested the meme ban idea as I had heard of it vaguely through a biased  Reddit  post, and then explored the facts myself and wanted to look into it further. We considered trampo

Filming Day 3: The Green Screen

The Green Screen. We shot the green screen segment on 17th Oct. We got all the shots that we needed and the shoot went smoothly. It was all simple to set up (which we hadn't done before). For the background we will be using graphics and stock images to make the package a more interesting topic.  What went well? Script I took the liberty of writing the package script and I'm happy with how it turned out. It was a difficult task, as I needed to write a complicated topic in a way that would be understandable to a young audience, and I knew that to achieve this I would need good graphics to illustrate what I was saying. I included this on the script not only to help in the post-production process but to remind us to keep it simple on the filming day, as it would make more sense later. We used the teleprompter and this really helped. We did make a few changes to the script on the way. Firstly, we changed the image of a cat to a picture of a dog, as Ebony was able to

Newsround Analysis

Newsround. Newsround is a BBC programme that airs on CBBC, where it brings news topics that interest the young audience of CBBC but also makes current affairs interesting and understandable. From the beginning [2.4] Newsround, 1973 Newsround began in 1972 as John Craven's Newsround, but then changed to Newsround just before his departure in 1989. [1] It initially was broadcast for just 2 days a week and the first season only lasted for 6 weeks, however, due to it's popularity, it returned, and by 1974 it was being broadcast 4 days a week. [2.1] By 1979, it was being broadcast all year round, where previously it would go off air in the Summer. Also in this year, Craven helped to launch the Blue Peter appeal to raise £100,000 to help Cambodia to recover from the Pol Pot regime. It reached this target within 24 hours, and the appeal went on to net £3 mil. [2.2]  In 1991, Krishnan Guru-Murthy began presenting. He left in 1994 to present on Newsnight, The National Lot
