The Pitch.

The Pitch.

Purebred

Effie:

-During Crufts 2018, PETA protesters stormed the stage, holding a sign reading “canine eugenics”.-Dog breeds have changed so dramatically that it is taking a negative affect on dogs’ health.-But what are the passions behind dog breeding and show dogs? Why are breed standards so important, and are the dogs really suffering?

-To take part in a dog show (in particular a ‘best of breed’ show) a dog must conform to a set of appearance and temperament regulations. This is called a Breed Standard and every breed has one.
-Purebred dogs are dogs bred for their appearance and temperament to be most desirable in their breed. This leads to certain traits being bred out of a dog, and this has led to massive changes in the appearance of dogs in the past 100 years.

-The documentary is going to be presenter-led.
-This ensures that we can shoot actuality scenes with the characters and a presenter asking them questions as they carry out their routine, which could include things such as grooming or training the dogs.
-We are hoping to hold different styles of interviews throughout the documentary to keep the viewer engaged, this will also be supported by the presenter.
-We want to represent different arguments to the viewer so that they can build their own opinion on breed standards and dog shows.

Esme:

-Looking at show breeds as they are seen as the top type of dog
-But parallel that with ordinary dogs so we have broader range
-Its looking at adoption and breeding to offer both sides how to get a dog
-Assured Breeding Society- talking to them- possible interview with spokesperson.
-When phoning might ask about possible breeders to talk to.
-Royal Veterinary College who have spoken about bad parts of canine eugenics. No reply yet but if they can give us official statics at least.
-Pugs and Pals are London Pug café- will talk to the owners as a to why they opened it.
-Want to talk to adoption places/shelters. Dog Park for possible vox pops and intro.
-Dogs trust – who focus on rehoming dogs, see if they get a pattern with dog breeds, and if they come in with health problems
-ABC for dogs, focuses on dog behaviour and training solutions

Ebony:

-Taking trips to Jenkins community woodlands to try to speak to people with dogs
-Speak to them about where they got their dog and how they chose their breed - creating contacts and getting a story
-Also gives us an opportunity to get footage of dogs in natural conditions as there is a recreational area for them to play around in which would be great footage to include

-Visiting dog shows to see the outlooks of how show dogs are bred. Gives us an opportunity to get more stories.
-Have spoken to a number of vets about getting professional opinions, have all either given me another number to ring or emails of specific people so I am still trying to get in contact.
-In the process of joining Facebook groups for dog breeders, could possibly talk to them and get stories of people who breed either for positive or negative results-Speaking to both of these should hopefully give us two sets of opinions, the vets will probably speak pro dog, and the breeders might hide the truth

Feedback

-We need to focus in on certain breeds or certain subjects of dog breeding. Because at the moment we are speaking to so many people and we only have 10 minutes so we wouldn't be able to fit it all in.
-Need to get in contact with a breeder asap as it is so important to get their outlook on the subject.
-Pugs cafe would be good but only if it links to the story, so only really could use it if we choose to focus on pugs
-Should really try and get involved with the dog shows, even if we get footage from someone else rather than going and hear their thoughts and the process they go through to get their dog ready for the show.

Documentary: Presenters

Presenters. Presenter-led documentaries create a certain style that is easily engaging for the viewer. They have a sort of 'reference point' to focus on and that feeds them the information they need, while asking the questions they're wondering. As presenter of our group documentary, I want to know what's involved in being a presenter and why a presenter is used for some documentaries, but not others. The Role As a presenter, it's your job to, as you would expect, present the show. Using research that has been done in the pre-production the presenter is able to inform the viewer. They also interact with contributors asking questions, and essentially tell the story of the documentary. It's useful to have a presenter as it means we are likely to get more information from actuality if the presenter asks questions as it's happening. It also adds to the story as the presenter is usually on a journey to learn about the topic of the documentary- this is s

This House Has People In It (S2S Research)

This House Has People In It. This video is one of my favourite short films by YouTube channel Adult Swim. The video consists of (fiction) surveillance footage from an American family home. The shots show different angles from throughout the house and the production is edited in a format that is much like a security camera scroll- it goes from camera to camera as the scene unfolds. The parents are talking in the kitchen with the daughter lying face down on the floor. Eventually the parents turn the conversation to the daughter on the floor and try to get her up. They believed she was throwing a tantrum but soon realise she's stuck. As the family get more and more panicked she begins to sink into the floor and chaos unfolds as the cameras continue to flick between one another showing the rest of the house. Adult Swim The YouTube channel Adult Swim joined YouTube on March 2nd, 2006. Channel stats from Social Blade . Since then, they have made 8,302 public videos and ga

Jungle Run

Jungle Run. Jungle Run was a children's game show that aired on CITV from 1999 to 2006. Set in a jungle, contestants must complete tasks to collect monkeys that earn them time in the final round, whilst having to deal with the mischievous monkey characters that would try to sabotage their gameplay. I want to look at how the gameplay works in Jungle Run as I think it will help with the technicalities of the gameplay in Mission Control. I also want to look at how the show is timed to get a better idea of how much time the scripting should take. As an example, I am using an episode of Jungle Run from series 8. Running Order In order to better understand the programme and the rhythm to which it runs, I made a running order of the show and the duration of each section so that it's broken down and easier to take in each segment. From this, I was able to learn the lengths of sections such as the graphics and 'transition sequences'- montages of the group members
