Some Very Rough Notes
These are some ideas I noted down throughout the whole process of developing my scripts, trying to come up with ideas that I could work with (and really trying to fix my first script before beginning to plan the second).
Thrillers work with the world/situation as the viewer understands it; horror film upend the viewer's world and present a world/situation that rejects normal conventions.
- Morning in the house - Sam and Mark
- Just married couple moving out of rental apartment to move into first house together
- Curiosity by Alberto Manuel is sat on the bedside table
- House listings on the kitchen table
- Just married cards sat around the house
- Holiday photos or images of space dotted around (to show exploration)
- Talk about holiday plan
- Mark leaves and we have a MCU of Sam walking through house to make viewer feel suspense (seeing something in the background) - Sam leaves to attend home viewing
- She walks past sign on lamp post that hints to what is about to happen i.e. missing person sign
- She calls Arthur to tell him she's on her way/ he doesn't answer? Goes to his answer phone
- Someone in the background appears to be following her but they aren't - put the viewer on edge - Sam knocks on Arthur's door
- Arthur seems shifty
- He checks around when closing the door behind Sam - Sam and Arthur walk around the house
- Arthur needs to make Sam feel uncomfortable, and give suspicious vibes.
- Hints dotted around the house i.e. a newspaper cutting on the fridge maybe or just a newspaper on the kitchen table. Hints to being watched. - Sam notices the door
- Need to show curiosity
- Arthur's speech fades
- Something needs to be unusual about the door. Appearance/ Sounds - Sam enters/ explores the door
- Cliffhanger ending- leave the viewer asking questions?
- Arthur is her stalker and has a shrine to her behind the door?
- She says "Mark?!" looking concerned and that's where it ends?
- Someone taken hostage?
- One of Arthur's family members are behind the door
- The nightmare is recreated in real life (too horror)
- She listens to the door and hears something on the other side. Crying or singing. She opens the door and a person is sat there, blindfolded. They ask "dad? Is that you?" Sam is horrified and doesn't know what to do. She hears footsteps behind her. it's the homeowner.
